What is it about?

Caring is essential to educating students, especially students coming from disadvantaged circumstances. Black male leaders are not known for their caring, but for their stern exteriors and strict discipline styles. This article not only sheds light on the fact that Black male leaders care, but also how Black males may care differently than other leaders.

Why is it important?

This topic is important because Black males are often misunderstood, yet have some amazing caring qualities in embedded their leadership that should be recognized, and perhaps replicated among other groups in leadership when appropriate.

Perspectives

Writing this article was eye-opening and a great pleasure! I enjoyed exploring both the historic and contemporary literature on Black males and leadership, as well as sharing my research findings. I am also proud to contribute the Black Masculine Caring (BMC) framework to the literature to provide others with a framework for discussing this topic in their work.
