Why is it important?

This article describe neonatal hypoglycemia. Mainly the controversies that exist in regards to definition, presentation, screening and when and whom to treat and most importantly the neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Perspectives

Our goal from writing this article is to present the current evidence about neonatal hypoglycemia. During writing this paper it was interesting to see how the controversies still exist about a diagnosis that was established since the 1940s. This provides another example of how difficult it's to provide definitive answers about clinical conditions that affect neonates. We hope that by presenting these knowledge gaps and controversies, more robust well-designed research studies will be conducted in the near future to answer some of these questions.
