What is it about?

I created and posted videos weekly on YouTube, and measured metrics on demographics and view count to see if people watched them. They did. My biggest demographic was about 30 year olds, equally divided between genders. They watched the videos on the average about 60% through, a relatively good retention rate.

Why is it important?

Psychoanalysts generally have few outreach tools. We tend to give talks and write papers. So how does the general public benefit from what we have to offer. Besides doing therapy, we encourage people to listen to their gut, their emotions, their instincts. So creating new modes of outreach is crucial for psychoanalysts to engage with the greater community.

Perspectives

This study, using videos of myself in hopes of developing viewers' interest in their own inner worlds, was outside the normal route for the psychoanalytic field. It was personally challenging to expose myself, in a way that there was not precedent in my field. I am very happy with the outcome, I have received very positive feedback from colleagues, and viewers have found them inspiring.
