What is it about?

Even in collaborative care settings, only about half of patients with opioid use disorder co-occurring with depression, PTSD, or both received mental health treatment. Those also using stimulants had especially low utilization. Additional interventions may be needed to raise treatment rates.

Why is it important?

Our findings suggest that stimulant use is a key risk factor for low mental health treatment utilization. Although collaborative care may help identify unmet needs and barriers to care, addressing all the barriers to care faced by this population may require additional work.
