What is it about?
This pilot study tested a six-week online group program, co-designed with youth, to help young people in Ontario build coping skills, social connection, and mental well-being. The program is delivered virtually by trained young adult peers and combines short educational pieces with creative activities, small-group discussions, and flexible ways to participate (for example, with cameras off or using the chat). Young people who took part reported higher well-being immediately after the program and one month later, and described feeling less alone and more equipped with practical strategies to manage stress. The findings suggest that youth-led virtual groups can be a feasible and promising way to support mental health before problems become more severe, while also highlighting the need to tailor groups by age and identity and to offer more flexible scheduling and formats.
