What is it about?
Public mental health settings face severe turnover and attrition because many providers leave these settings for more lucrative private practice settings. We surveyed private practice mental health providers to assess their reasons for leaving public mental health settings and to learn about their experiences and perceptions of public mental health settings. We found that, in addition to wanting higher pay, mental health providers deeply value and want independence, flexibility, and autonomy.
