What is it about?
Very little is known about the frequency of use of involuntary inpatient civil commitment in the United States. This article uses data from 32 states and D.C. to determine frequency of use and trends between 2010-2022. Scholars found that more states are increasing / remaining stable than decreasing. There are significant issues with data quality and data comparability across states, given state law variations.
