What is it about?
Racism remains a major problem in academic medicine, but there is little guidance on how to create lasting change. This paper describes efforts to develop an "anti-racism task force" - a diverse group committed to addressing racism within an academic psychiatry department. The task force was created using principles of community coalition building, to ensure it would be representative and sustainable over time. The paper shares the processes used and lessons they learned, which may help other departments and medical systems as they work to combat racism.
