What is it about?
Access to youth mental health treatment is crucial for improving health and longer term outcomes for those affected by mental health conditions. Yet, youth from different racial and ethnic backgrounds receive treatment at varying rates. This study examines racial disparities in youth mental health treatment in the U.S. from 2002 to 2019. White youth receive significantly more treatment than Black or Hispanic youth, with the gap widening over time. Socioeconomic factors only partly explain these disparities.
