What is it about?
Youth mental health problems are increasing, and services are insufficient to meet the needs. We analyzed the number of youth clients in inpatient psychiatric and psychiatric residential treatment beds from 2010-2022 and asked state mental health authorities whether they perceived changes in the total numbers of beds. We found that most states had reductions in the number of youth clients (in inpatient and residential beds, and in outpatient psychiatric services) from 2010 – 2022.
