What is it about?

This study compared the longer-term maintenance effects of two approaches to training college counselors in an evidence-based treatment (i.e., interpersonal psychotherapy [IPT]): train-the-trainer versus expert training. Both groups showed improvement from baseline to maintenance for all outcomes (i.e., adherence to the treatment, competence in the delivery of the treatment, knowledge of IPT), but the train-the-trainer group showed greater improvement over time in adherence and competence. Given that effects of the train-the-trainer approach were better maintained over time as well as its potential to train more therapists over time, it may be a good solution for increasing dissemination of evidence-based treatments.
