What is it about?
This study assesses whether using peer-staffed crisis respite centers as an alternative to hospitalization can reduce ED visits, hospitalizations and Medicaid expenditures for individuals enrolled in Medicaid. We find use of peer-staffed CRC services resulted in lowering rates of Medicaid-funded hospitalizations and health expenditures for participants relative to a comparison group.
