What is it about?
This study looked at whether a specific gene variant in the oxytocin receptor (OXTR) is linked to Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Researchers found that people with FND were more likely to have a certain genetic variant (rs53576) and that this variant was associated with differences in brain structure, especially in areas related to stress and emotions. These results suggest that genetics may play a role in how stress affects the brain in people with FND, especially in women. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.
