What is it about?

Functional motor disorder (FMD) represent a gray area between neurology and psychiatry. This study analyzes the pathological emotional-cognitive functioning of 30 people with FMD compared with 30 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HC), using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2).

Why is it important?

Identifying cognitive-affective functioning of people with FMD and behavioral characteristics could be useful to improve understanding of the disorder and therapeutic approaches.

Perspectives

I hope this article will raise awareness within the international scientific community about the need for in-depth research, using detailed tools, into the psychological factors in FMD that may act as precipitating, predisposing, and perpetuating elements
