What is it about?
Psychiatric symptoms are a core clinical feature of Huntington's disease and among the most burdensome features. Early identification of psychiatric problems is critical to reduce the negative impact on functioning, yet few studies have included adolescents and young adults at genetic risk. We used a multi-informant method to examine the psychiatric symptoms of young people with and without the huntingtin gene expansion. We found that young people, regardless of gene status or disease severity, are at increased risk for experiencing clinically significant psychiatric disturbances, particularly in the domain of internalizing symptoms.
