What is it about?
We proposed catatonia diagnostic criteria that require the presence of three symptom clusters. This system is intended to increase diagnostic rigor over Bush-Francis Catatonia Rating Scale (BFCRS) or DSM-5 criteria.

Why is it important?
Modern phenotype research is data-driven and could enable a determination of which features should be required for catatonia versus subsyndromal catatonia, subtypes, or forme fruste.
Perspectives
The confirmatory factor analysis and iterative analyses revealed the importance of having three separate criteria that could be further refined in subsequent studies.
