What is it about?
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is unique among other mental health diagnoses, as we know the event that causes it. As a result, scientists have an opportunity to develop tools to prevent PTSD entirely or intervene early. Most people who experience a trauma do not develop PTSD, but some are at higher risk such as military personnel and first responders. We discuss a new paper where scientists have developed a tool that trains the brain in hopes of preventing PTSD before trauma exposure.
