A Randomized Clinical Trial of Prolonged Exposure Therapy With and Without Topiramate for Comorbid PTSD and Alcohol Use Disorder

What is it about?

We studied whether combining Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy for PTSD with Topiramate, a drug that has been shown to reduce drinking, would help people with PTSD and alcohol use disorder reduce symptoms and drinking. All participants got PE. The group that also got topiramate had better outcomes while on the drug, but at follow up did not differ from the group that got PE with placebo.
