What is it about?

Problematic alcohol use (PAU) and psychiatric disorders often co-occur and influence each other's clinical courses. This study investigated the shared genetic architecture between PAU and psychiatric disorders. The findings implicated the dopaminergic pathway as a potential biological mechanism underlying the comorbidity between PAU and psychiatric disorders. Findings of colocalization and transcriptome-wide association study were also replicated in cross-ancestry analyses.
