What is it about?
People with alcohol use disorder (AUD) and depressive disorder are assumed to drink excessively primarily to relieve negative affect. This study examined real-time assessments of alcohol drinking and effects in the natural environment to examine whether intoxication is associated with negative or positive reinforcement. The findings suggest a pronounced and prolonged pleasurable alcohol effect in people with AUD with or without depressive disorder.
