What is it about?
Autoimmune anti-NMDA receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis is a neuropsychiatric illness classically associated with ovarian teratomas in women of reproductive age. However, approximately half of all cases in women do not have an identifiable tumor, leading to an interest in other potential causes. Infections, including with Mycolasma Pneumonia, have been implicated in the development of anti-NMDAR antibodies in a small subset of patients. We present the complicated case of a 19 year-old pregnant woman with a relapsing course of anti-NMDAR encephalitis, likely secondary to a post-infectious process following mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.
