What is it about?

Motivation deficits are the greatest cause of poor functioning in schizophrenia. We tested a new intervention to treat negative symptoms in schizophrenia. The intervention integrates Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Compared to an active control condition, the new intervention yielded significant and lasting improvements in negative symptoms. The results are very promising for the treatment of the most debilitating parts of schizophrenia.
