What is it about?

Childhood trauma has been associated with greater clinical severity and poorer treatment response across psychiatric disorders. This study examined panic disorder patients with and without histories of child abuse. Patients with histories of child abuse were more severe symptomatically and had greater psychosocial impairment, more severe interpersonal problems, and more comorbid personality disorders. History of child abuse was also associated with lack of treatment response in applied relaxation training, but not in panic focused psychodynamic psychotherapy or in cognitive behavioral therapy.
