What is it about?

Provisions of the Affordable Care Act that expanded Medicaid had the potential to increase insurance coverage, substance use treatment, and mental health treatment in people involved in the criminal legal system. This study, using nationally representative data from 2010 to 2017 demonstrates that although Medicaid expansion increased insurance coverage in this high need population, it did not lead to a measurable change in substance use or mental health treatment.
