Medicaid Expansion and Racial-Ethnic Health Care Coverage Disparities Among Low-Income Adults With Substance Use Disorders

What is it about?

Following ACA Medicaid expansion, there were significant declines in the proportions of Black, White, and Hispanic individuals with substance use disorders who lacked insurance. The declines in uninsured individuals and increases in Medicaid coverage were significantly more pronounced in expansion than non-expansion states. Despite overall gains, however, coverage remained far from universal, especially for low-income Hispanic adults with substance use disorders.
