Why is it important?

1. The military is a unique group that would benefit from clinical interviews that explore military culture 2. The DSM5’s Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) does not comprehensively explore all aspects of military culture 3. This “military version of the CFI” could provide a superior method for exploring military culture in clinical settings. 4. The methods in this paper also provide a mechanism for other groups to explore the applicability of the CFI.

Perspectives

This interview tool is an important step in providing clinicians with a tool to better understand their military and veteran culture as it impacts clinical care. We are excited for feedback and hope that military and veteran providers will consider studying what effects incorporating of this tool has on patient satisfaction and outcomes.
