What is it about?

While much attention has been paid to the increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder among U.S. children and adolescents, less is known about the composition of the adult population with Autism. Medicaid is an important health care coverage provider for these individuals. The authors find a substantial increase in the percent of individuals receiving services for autism in the Medicaid population from 2008-2012. There were more younger adults receiving Autism services compared to older adults. This suggests that Medicaid should be prepared to provide more services and supports, such as community integration and employment opportunities, in the future.
