What is it about?
Research suggests structured safety planning is effective to reduce risk for suicidal behavior in adults and adolescents when used in the emergency department. This study describes how staff were trained to use safety planning in two pediatric emergency settings. We examine how providers viewed the use of this intervention before and after training. The authors found that providers generally thought the intervention was helpful, and they used the safety planning intervention in their own practice with teens in the emergency department.
