What is it about?
Opioid addiction is a devastating disease to many and long-term buprenorphine treatment engagement is associated with better survival and other outcomes. We found that in a commercial insurance population, only less than half of the patients were still engaged in buprenorphine treatment 1 year after initiation. The loss of insurance coverage appeared to be the most significant predictor of disengagement. Receipt of psychotherapy in the first year was associated with better treatment retention.
