What is it about?

New-onset oppositional defiant disorder developed in the first six months post-injury in approximately 8% of 134 children and adolescents consecutively hospitalized for traumatic brain injury. There were several noted risk factors for this development. This new disorder was significantly associated with lower socioeconomic status, poorer pre-injury family functioning, and pre-injury psychosocial adversity. The disorder was also associated with a measure sensitive to brain injury, namely, slower processing speed, measured in the first weeks after injury.
