What is it about?
We used published lesions that were associated with spontaneous confabulation and the human connectome to map the network basis of this complex neuropsychiatric presentation. We found that connectivity to the mammillary bodies was a central hub in this network, and that despite shared phenemenological overlap with delusions, the two syndromes share a distinct functional anatomy. We further found that connectivity to the orbitofrontal cortex distinguishes spontaneous confabulation from amnesia without spontaneous confabulation.
