What is it about?
We examined diagnostic stability in a cohort of patients diagnosed with younger-onset dementia syndromes and primary psychiatric diseases. We found that patients with a recent manifestation of psychiatric symptoms who were initially diagnosed with a primary psychiatric condition, were later diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease. Thus, misdiagnosis is not uncommon and late-life psychiatric manifestations could be a harbinger for a dementing illness.
