What is it about?
Visual hallucinations and impulsive behaviors are common problems in patients with Parkinson disease, but it has been unclear whether they might be associated with cognitive changes following a common surgical treatment for Parkinson’s motor symptoms (deep brain stimulation). After review of patient charts and cognitive testing results, we found that any previous occurrence of visual hallucinations was associated with a mild worsening of certain test results, suggesting that these patients may be at greater risk of side effects from the procedure.
