What is it about?
The habenula is a small brain nucleus important for the signaling of disappointment, and has been shown to be involved in depression and addiction. Here we show that the strength of habenular functional connectivity with other key regions of the brain is altered in psychiatric patients that have attempted suicide, as compared to psychiatric patients that have never attempted. This may help explain the biological basis of suicide.
