What is it about?

A key question in the field has been the extent to which the population of tobacco users may have become “hardened” as more and more quit using (or don’t take up the habit at all). That is, the remaining tobacco users may be more and more dependent and may have a harder time quitting than previous groups. Using two nationally representative studies, we found that tobacco users in 2012-2013 were more likely to be tobacco dependent than tobacco users in 2001-2002. Tobacco users may now need even more help to quit than in past years.
