What is it about?
This editorial comments on an innovative treatment development study designed to address the tragic problem of suicide, reverse the pattern of increasing rates of suicide deaths among young people, and help achieve our national and global goals of reducing suicide deaths and attempts. Study results support the value of a multi-component technology enhanced intervention that augments the power of in-person psychotherapy with phone support, apps, and other mental health technologies for the care of adolescents hospitalized for suicide attempts and/or suicidal ideation, a group at elevated risk for fatal and nonfatal suicide attempts. The editorial reviews the study and highlights key issues for harnessing the value of technology for improving health and mental health.
