What is it about?

Vertically resolved measurements of wind profiles all over the globe are a critical need for initializing weather models but wind lidar technologies are considered risky from space. To enable such measurements,. we have built, demonstrated, and validated a new type of Doppler wind lidar that builds on lidar technology (CALIPSO) already operating in space. We describe the instrument and validation efforts.
