What is it about?

We develop a new microphysics-based snow optical database and tests it using collocated global spaceborne cloud radar and microwave imager measurements.

Why is it important?

The newly developed database meets the recent requirements of snow remote sensing and all-sky data assimilation communities.

Perspectives

If a consistent snow optical parameterization scheme is eventually adopted in weather prediction models and spaceborne radar snow retrievals, it would make evaluations of weather prediction models with satellite snow retrievals more meaningful.
