What is it about?

When cells from the surface of the eye undergoes irradiation, they are killed in several ways. The cross linking protein called transglutaminase is activated in these dying cells.

Why is it important?

It may be possible to protect the eye against UVB induced damage by preventing the upregulation of transglutaminase protein

Perspectives

This shows one deleterious effect of UVB in the ocular surface.
