What is it about?

This catalyst ZnO-Tin dioxide is sensitive to light, contain negative and positive sites, once the phenol is attached to this catalyst and shine by light electrons and holes are created that will attack the phenol breaking it down into smaller molecule eventually converting it to carbon dioxide and water.

Why is it important?

Breaks phenols and derivatives (toxic) compounds in wastewater and converts them to greener products (not toxic) carbon dioxides and water.

Perspectives

This catalyst has many applications because it is sensitive to both light and gasses (any adsorbed molecule on its surface)
