What is it about?
Primary graft dysfunction (PGD) is a form of acute lung injury after lung transplantation and is associated with increased mortality. Obesity is a risk factor for PGD, but the mechanisms linking obesity and PGD are unknown. We performed biopsies of adipose tissue and identified that subjects with PGD, compared to those without PGD, have increased expression of a gene called the aryl-hydrocarbon receptor repressor. We believe further investigation of this protein may identify mechanisms linking obesity and PGD.
