What is it about?

The study examined tooth loss between men and women and found no significant differences between the two. Age rather than gender contributed to tooth loss.

Why is it important?

It provided evidence that women had better oral hygiene habits than men but that this did not necessarily mean that they did not loose their teeth.

Perspectives

Despite longstanding plaque accumulations on their teeth, this isolated population appeared to have less caries and periodontal disease than was expected. This could be explained by the high fluoride content of their water supplies and their diet.
