What is it about?
Ghatiana sanguinolenta Pati, Thackeray & Pawar, 2023, is a new species of freshwater crab recently described from the Western Ghats of Karnataka state, India. The species name is derived from the Latin for blood-red, which alludes to the crab’s dark blood-red colouration in life. This new gecarcinucid species is the twelfth species of the genus. This interesting endemic species of the Western Ghats is known to occupy tree holes.
