What is it about?
This paper discusses the response of the scientific community to the current Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, what it should do to solve potential problems with the unprecedented number of smaller trials evaluating the same interventions, and what it can do better in pandemics yet to come.

Why is it important?
Clinicians need quick and reliable results from clinical trials in a pandemic to avoid a health disaster and ensure the best outcome for the single patient. We present how to achieve this in the current and future pandemics.
Perspectives
My personal hope is that our article inspires the scientific community to build foundations for new or better collaborations when designing trials in emergency situations like a pandemic.
