What is it about?

Cellular senescence, when cells stop dividing, is a feature of cell aging and seems to play an important role in several chronic lung diseases, including COPD and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Senescent cells produce a variety of proteins that cause inflammation, fibrosis, and defective tissue repair. New treatments are in development that prevent senescence or remove senescent cells.
