What is it about?
People who who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease often get a chest infection following a cold. This study shows that the common cold virus inhibits the ability of lung immune cells (macrophages) to clear bacteria. This could lead to chest infections in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
