What is it about?
Measuring respiratory drive and inspiratory effort during assisted mechanical ventilation can help preventing injury to the lungs and respiratory muscles. However, measuring drive and effort is rarely done in clinical practice. We validated the use of P0.1, currently available in most ventilators as a measure of respiratory drive and to detect potentially injurious levels of effort (low and excessive) in during assisted ventilation in these patients.
