What is it about?

This chapter is about the use of archival fragments in language teaching and learning. In particular, we discuss how UCL’s Collections have been used in the past eight years to promote and enhance the visibility of Scandinavian Studies in the UK and raise the profile of foreign language learning.

Why is it important?

The projects examined in this chapter championed a new approach to collection-based language teaching which emphasises the indissoluble link between language and culture.

Perspectives

We hope this article helps people reflect on the importance of university collections and encourages students and colleagues to use them more in teaching, research and different forms of external engagement.
