What is it about?
This chapter looks at what it means to be human, and argues that at the heart of human existence is the need for relationships based on freedom and attention to the needs of others, especially those most in need in the world. It works with thinkers from different backgrounds and settings to show how for Christians the idea of human existence based on relationships is fundamental.

Why is it important?
It's pretty obvious that there is nothing more important for human beings than understanding what it is to live a fulfilled life, and this chapter gets you started on thinking about that question from different perspectives, and focuses on the importance of others in a world where self-interest increasingly seems to be put first.
Perspectives
Writing this chapter was challenging and exciting, digging deep into what it means to be human from the perspective of a Christian theologian. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
