Perspectives

"This chapter is based on my 30 year career working with teachers, students and schools as a researcher in education. It follows four case studies in classroom practice to explore practical wisdom within teachers’ professional lives in classrooms and schools. Examples of practical wisdom - a values-led reasoning that draws on a combining of different kinds of knowledge to arrive at wiser actions and decisions - are curated in this chapter's journeying. Each case identifies key dimensions of practical wisdom for teacher professionalism (described as 'threads' in the chapter) which are woven together in the book's conclusion. The book's final chapter envisions empowering of teacher professionalism through collegial practical wisdom at a foundational level".
